My First Radio Interview!

Last month, I was honored to represent my workplace on air with Dr. L. Ronald Durham as he interview me about my current practice as a Physician Associate and how I serve the local community through my educational lectures while trying to influence a health-promoting culture at work! Not only did we review the different pillars of health and wellness, but I also talked about self-care and disease prevention. I believe in a wellness culture at my workplace and I’m working on achieving that each day when I walk through the door! Oftentimes, it’s quite challenging to change the mindset of a work culture or shift the norm curve. At the end of the day, health is about healthful living and being able to walk the talk, and so hopefully my own examples at work will eventually shift the norm curve towards promoting more well-being.

I am driven to help people in need and those craving for health-promoting tips, especially with truthful and evidence-based information (thanks to organizations like the American College of Lifestyle Medicine). Sharing fruitful information was the main Mission of my Resource Blog in the first place! It has been a privilege and honor for me to serve others in this way. I chose the field of Geriatrics because I grew up close-by my grandparents in Vietnam for the first 10 years of my life, and they had always been near and dear to my heart. I’ve been practicing in Primary Care since 2017 and senior health has a special place in my call for service. I wanted to serve seniors committed to aging well so that they may influence their next generation and the ones after that to come. I really enjoy getting to know families and seeing the involvement of caregivers and family members as they care for their elders. I’ve been caring for a variety of patient health conditions, and many of which are able to be reversed or put back in remission! I’d like my audience---whether patients, listeners, or readers---to know that I see myself as a good partner in their path to achieving and maintaining a good health foundation. My approach to caring for another’s health is to understand each person as an individual and to provide a continuum of care that is uniquely designed according to needs. I emphasize on wellness through healthy lifestyle choices at ALL AGES!

The promotion of healthfulness starts with choosing to practice it on ourselves first. This brings me back to my example of trying to influence the culture at my workplace. Indeed, it's important to create a diverse and inclusive workplace where different cultures are respected and celebrated. However, teamwork is more than just working together; it’s about engaging in a synchronized flow of work that supports the company’s missions and visions. In healthcare, at least in my lens, it is about promoting healthful living by being examples of walking our talks. I understand that it is a part of the process to kindle a Team to share the same values and mindsets, but a successful company would do so by cultivating talents within its employees and fostering the environment that support only the healthy goals of those employees. I believe that there is more work to be done to promote this wellness culture, even at my own workplace. Nobody’s perfect, and we are all a work-in-progress at the end of the day. However, let’s at least move in the correct direction of health-care while we try to care for others’ health. This month’s Blog post is also a call to action and to spread the joy of caring for our health, so please share it along to those who need to hear this too!
